Hogs Close Mixed on Thursday

Lean hog futures posted mixed trade on Thursday, with nearby Feb up 65 cents and other nearby contracts steady to 7 cents lower. The national average base hog negotiated price was reported at $82.25 on Thursday afternoon, up 99 cents from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was reported at $81.72 on January 21, up 26 cents from the previous day. 

USDA’s FOB plant pork cutout value was $1.60 higher in the Thursday PM report at $91.77 per cwt. Federally inspected hog slaughter for Thursday was at 472,000 head, with the week to date total at 1.82 head. That is 109,000 head below last week and down 109,778 head from the same week last year.
